CH2M Foundation: Grants for Global Development

OVERVIEW: The CH2M Foundation’s global grantmaking focuses on providing access to safe drinking water and transportation in developing countries.

IP TAKE: Grantseekers are going to have to elbow past CH2M’s current charitable partners to gain its funding attentions. Engaging with employees may be one avenue toward getting funding.

PROFILE: The global engineering firm CH2M Hill pursued a global rebrand in 2015. While the rebrand, according to the company, was intended to “better reflect the clients’ needs and its own ambitions for growth,” the company is not without past controversies. Clean drinking water, increasingly reliable energy sources, and more resilient infrastructure are all priorities for this funder. As the philanthropic arm of CH2M Hill, the CH2M Foundation seeks to provide access to safe drinking water and transportation in developing countries. It also addresses the infrastructure challenges associated with both clean water and transportation in developing regions of the world. According to the foundation “These seemingly simple investments become game changers providing not just clean water, a safe crossing or energy, but rather build a pathway for human progress.”

One of three programs, grants are awarded through the foundation’s Sustainable Communities program. CH2M partners with a few select NGOs for “maximum impact,” such as Water for People—which is where the foundation directs its larger grants.

The remainder of CH2M’s grants typically range from $1,000 to $10,000, though can go as high as around $25,000.

The foundation does not accept unsolicited grant applications A Board of Directors and foundation staff members select grantees.
