Bradford and Lauren Koenig

SOURCE OF WEALTH: Goldman Sachs

FUNDING AREAS: Education & Youth, Health

OVERVIEW: Brad Koening and his wife Lauren conduct their philanthropy through the Bradford and Lauren Koenig Foundation. According to available tax filings, the foundation dispersed $1.1 million in grant funding in 2017. The couple steadily support schools with which they have a personal connection, including Dartmouth and Stanford.

BACKGROUND: Bradford Koenig received a bachelor's degree in economics from Dartmouth College and his MBA from Harvard Business School. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1984, where he worked for over two decades and was a partner. Koenig served as an adviser to Oak Hill Capital Partners. He went on to cofound FoodyDirect in Menlo Park, California.

ISSUES:

EDUCATION & YOUTH: Koenig strongly supports his alma mater, Dartmouth College. One of the couple's kids also attended the school. The Koenigs were among several donors to commit a total of $7 million to endow head coaching positions in the school's varsity athletics programs. The Koening family's gift endowed the head coach of men’s hockey. Koening himself played football at Dartmouth.

The Koenigs have supported Lauren's school, Stanford (they are also Stanford parents), the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation (one of their sons graduated from Navy), and Sacred Heart Schools, where Lauren served on the board.

HEALTH: Grantees include Bay Area Lyme Foundation, Alzheimer's Association, and Mills-Peninsula Hospital Foundation

LOOKING FORWARD: Expect the Koenigs to stick with their established interests for now.
