PROFILE: The Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama (CFNA) supports the Alabama counties of Dekalb, Etowah, St. Clair, Talladega, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Clay, and Randolph. CFNA is based in Anniston, Alabama. It seeks “to achieve positive change through the generosity of donors, now and for generations to come.” It has around $43 million in assets and is made up of approximately 167 funds. This community funder makes over $1 million in grants and scholarships each year. CFNA was formerly known as the Calhoun County Community Foundation and the Community Foundation of Calhoun County, but expanded its service area to include the neighboring counties in 2009.
CFNA awards grants through the Susie Parker Stringfellow Health Fund in the spring and fall of each year for community healthcare and health education services. It also awards yearly grants from the Foothills Community Partnership Charitable Fund for human care issues in Calhoun County. The funder manages many donor-advised funds and administers a couple dozen named scholarship funds.
In the past, CFNA has also provided funding for local disaster relief efforts and participated in community efforts regarding rural housing. Its recent initiatives have touched on topics like breastfeeding for new moms and rural leadership development.
