PROFILE: Established in 2006, the Chase Foundation is the foundation of Mack and Marilyn Chase. The couple supports the community of Artesia and nonprofits in Southeastern New Mexico. They earned their fortune in the oil and gas industry, and the town of Artesia holds a special place in their hearts. Mack Chase started Mack Chase, Inc. in 1968, Mack Energy in 1992, and Arrowhead Pipe & Supply Company in 2001. Topics of interest for this funder include public schools, youth, college institutions, children and families, people with disabilities, senior citizens, and community development.
However, the primary focuses that Chase is interested in are pre-school through 12th grade education, college education programs, substance abuse programs, domestic violence programs, community enhancement programs, charity infrastructure, youth initiative programs, and emergency and critical human services. This foundation typically gives priority to projects that involve joint efforts of multiple agencies and wide community support. These are the things that Chase does not fund: loans to individuals, interests or programs detrimental to the oil and gas industry, operational expenses of established programs, non-charitable organizations through IRS determination, international organizations, political or lobbying activities, ticketed events, causes outside the specified geographic area, and projects that do not have sustainability for a five-year period.

It mostly supports nonprofits but occasionally considers governmental entities as well.
The foundation accepts grant applications at any time of the year, and the directors meet quarterly to review requests. Make sure to get the application in at least four weeks in advance of the second Tuesday of March, June, September and December to be considered at the next board meeting.
