OVERVIEW: Thomas and Sheila Rabaut conduct their philanthropy through the Rabaut Family Foundation, which supports organizations that focus on issues relevant to the mental health community throughout the United States. BACKGROUND: Thomas W. Rabaut has a B.S. from the United States Military Academy at West Point and served five years in the United States Army, and has an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Rabaut spent nearly two decades at FMC Corporation, and was president and CEO of United Defense, which sold to BAE Systems. Rebaut joined Carlyle in 2007, and is an operating executive focused on U.S. buyout opportunities. 

ISSUES: 

MENTAL HEALTH: Sheila Rabaut was a board director at NARSAD and has been a member of the leadership council of the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation since 2009. The couple appear to prioritize mental health organizations and have supported National Alliance of Mental Illness, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services.

EDUCATION & YOUTH: Rabaut has supported his alma mater West Point. Other grantees include Boys & Girls Club of Oakland, Grand Rapids Youth Foundation, The Posse Foundation, and Elite Nation Basketball, which helps “make it possible for aspiring male basketball players to participate in high level AAU” through financial aid.

HUMAN SERVICES: Grantees include The Capuchin Soup Kitchen and So Others Might Eat (SOME).

RELIGIOUS: The couple has steadily supported Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary IHM Sisters.
